De Oude Kerk Volksmuseum
Built in 1743 and established as a museum in 1925, the Oude Kerk Volksmuseum is one of the oldest museums in the Western Cape.
Dedicated to telling the story of the Tulbagh Valley’s development and history, the museum complex features four remarkable historic buildings in the heart of Tulbagh.
At its centre stands the Oude Kerk (Old Church) – one of the last remaining cruciform churches built by the VOC, still preserved in its original form.
Inside, visitors can explore a fascinating collection of Cape furniture and historical artefacts, including the original table on which the Dutch capitulated to the British in 1806.
Surrounded by a beautifully restored cemetery and steeped in centuries of heritage, the Oude Kerk Volksmuseum offers a captivating glimpse into Tulbagh’s rich cultural past.
