Establishment Waverley Hills Hiking Trail
On road R46 to Ceres
Description: Waverley Hills is best known for producing certified organic wines with a unique style - Extremely smooth with soft ripe tannins and robust fynbos characteristics. We also produce olives in brine, air dried olives and a small amount of olive oil. In 2000 it was decided to enter the organic market. Since then a total of 30Ha of vineyards and 10Ha of olive groves have been planted and cultivated organically. All grapes and olives used for Waverley Hills are cultivated on the estate which is run and owned by the Du Toit family who has over 40 years wine industry experience. Our wines are clean and free of pesticides, fungicides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers and contains up to 50% less sulphur than conventionally produced wines. All vineyards are irrigated with pure mountain spring water and are located on a natural watershed area where both the Breede and Berg rivers originate. Visitors can enjoy sampling the estate's wine in the tasting room, or dine in the restaurant which boasts panoramic views of the valley. Weddings, conferences and functions are also held at Waverley Hills' stylish and versatile venue. Enjoy the outdoors by exploring our gardens or our short hiking trail if you are feeling energetic. We also have a wonderful play area with a jungle gym for children. This marvellous mountain range is famous for its diverse fynbos species and forms part of the Cape floristic region, which is internationally recognised for its rich plant and animal diversity. The hiking trails were especially designed to educate and to give you some insight in this wonderful natural resource. Part of our education plan is the placing of information boards on the hiking trails. On these boards, you will find the plant's Latin names, the common and family names, as well as some other interesting information.
